For centuries a single footpath stitched Bhutan together, carrying messengers, monks and armies between the dzongs before any road existed. Restored and reopened in 2022, the Trans-Bhutan Trail runs 403 kilometres from Haa in the west to Trashigang in the east. Walking all of it takes about five weeks.
No single stretch is extreme, but the trail climbs and drops constantly: over passes strung with prayer flags, past fortresses and roadside temples, through villages where walkers are still greeted the way pilgrims always were. In Phrumsengla National Park the path runs beneath old-growth fir and bamboo where red pandas live.
Nights alternate between camps, farmhouses and small hotels, and rest days fall where they are deserved, in Thimphu, Punakha and Bumthang among others. It is the longest journey we offer, and the one people come home changed by.
Fly into Paro, meet the crew who will walk with you for five weeks, and drive over Chele La into the quiet Haa valley, the western trailhead.
Every departure is private. We shape the route, pace and stays around you.
